Master of Library and Information Studies

2010 Enrolment in the Information Studies Programmes

The Master of Library and Information Studies is no longer open to new enrolments.

You should go to the Information Studies Programmes page for the current programmes in Information Studies: library science, archives and records management.

Victoria University of Wellington will be offering three qualifications for information professionals from the beginning of 2010. They are:

  • Master of Information Studies (MIS)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Information Studies (PGDipIS)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Information Studies (PGCertIS)

You will be able to select courses that suit your own preferred study and career paths. All the new qualifications can be earned with an endorsement of either LIBS (library science) or ARCR (archives and records management), if they include the appropriate courses.

See further information about the structure of new programme here.

Options for students enrolled in the MLIS before 2010

The Master of Library and Information Studies was offered until the end of 2009. Current students have until the end of the 2010 academic year to decide whether to complete their degree under existing statutes and qualify with an MLIS or switch to the Master of Information Studies (MIS). They can also choose to exit with a PGCertIS or PGDipIS. Students who have not completed their MLIS by the end of the 2011 academic year will have to enrol in the MIS or exit with a PGCertIS or PGDipIS.

The PGCertArcRec and PGDipArcRec programmes are also being closed after 2009. Current students in these qualifications will be able to complete under the 2009 statute or switch to the PGCertIS or PGDipIS.
